Seafood In Bangladesh

Bangladesh is a reverence deltaic country with its monsoon and warm tropical climactic weather ideally located by the Bay of Bengal to offer a vast reserve fresh brackish water fish like Black Tiger shrimp, fresh water shrimp, and other seafood. Bangladesh has more than 82 million acres of inland water and 300 square miles of coast line. Historically within the last decade around 2.1 million metric tons of shrimp and other seafood had been produced annually from various sources in the country.

The fisheries sector plays a very important role in our national economy. It has become the second most foreign exchange earning exporting vehicle for the country. It contributes 5.1% into our national GDP. More than 30 million people are directly and indirectly involved with the fisheries activities to earn their livings.

Since exporting of shrimp and seafood have been a major earning channel for our national economy, the Department of Fisheries of Bangladesh has made invested significant resources in expanding its growth and production capacity and further improve its quality up to the safety and quality standards of international shrimp and seafood exporting agencies like EU and FDA.

Presently Bangladesh is exporting frozen shrimp and seafood to more than 40 countries around the world including, USA, Canada, England, Germany, France, Japan, S. Korea, etc.
